Did you know that piso has two common meanings? It refers to the floor surface you walk on inside a home, but it also means a floor or story of a building, as in el tercer piso. In Spain, piso is also the standard word for an apartment.

Keep in mind: techo covers both the ceiling (the surface above you inside a room) and the roof (the exterior top of a building). English speakers often expect two separate words where Spanish uses one.
