Spanish Vocabulary

Are you studying Spanish for school, business or just for fun? On this site you will find free interactive quizzes that will test your knowledge and even help you improve your Spanish vocabulary.

1. Basic Phrases

Starting a conversation in Spanish? Knowing key phrases makes it easier! If someone says ¿Cómo estás?, you can reply with “Bien, gracias.” Let’s practice essential expressions to help you sound more natural in Spanish!

2. Shopping

You're about to walk into every shop in the Spanish-speaking world — and actually know what to say. This series of 14 short quizzes will teach you 50 essential Spanish words for shopping — the places, the people, the money, the products, and the actions that tie it all together. Whether you're haggling at a street market in Mexico City or asking for a receipt in a Barcelona boutique, these are the words you'll reach for first. Each quiz takes about five minutes. You'll start by reading and translating, then progress to listening to spoken Spanish, connecting pronunciation to spelling, and using words in real sentences. The difficulty builds gradually — early quizzes give you confidence, later ones challenge your ears and memory. Along the way, words from previous quizzes reappear when you least expect them, keeping everything fresh without requiring extra study sessions. The series is split into five thematic units — places and people, money, products, verbs, and descriptive words — followed by four cumulative reviews that test you across every format. By the end, you won't just recognize these 50 words. You'll hear them, spell them, and use them in context. That's what mastery feels like.

3. Describing People

By the end of this quiz set, you'll be able to describe almost anyone in Spanish. You'll learn 30 adjectives across four mini-topics: what people look like (tall, slim, handsome), how old or energetic they seem (young, tired, hardworking), the good stuff about their personality (kind, brave, funny, affectionate), and how they're feeling (sad, jealous, proud, worried). These are everyday words — the ones that come up when you're telling a friend about someone you met, or trying to follow a conversation about people you both know. Every topic starts with a short, easy quiz where you just read and match. Once those words feel familiar, a second quiz turns up the heat: you'll hear words spoken aloud, pick the right spelling, and fill in sentences. Each session takes about five minutes, and words you've already seen keep popping up in later quizzes — so they actually stick. Finish all twelve sessions and you'll be able to hear any of these words in conversation and know it instantly, spell it from sound alone, and use it correctly in a sentence. Thirty words, and they'll genuinely feel like yours.

4. Getting There

5. School

You're about to gain the vocabulary to navigate a Spanish-speaking classroom — from asking for a pencil to talking about homework, grades, and everything in between. This quiz set covers 31 essential school words in Latin American Spanish, organized into four thematic groups: the physical classroom (el salón de clase, la pizarra, la silla…), school supplies (la mochila, el cuaderno, la goma…), people and school life (el maestro, el recreo, el uniforme…), and schoolwork and learning (la tarea, el examen, estudiar…). These are the words students and teachers use every single day. Each theme begins with a short “Learn” session — easy reading and translation questions that build your confidence — followed by a deeper “Apply” session that introduces listening clips, spelling challenges, and fill-in-the-blank sentences. Sessions run about five minutes each. As you progress, earlier words reappear in harder question formats, so nothing gets left behind. By the end, you'll hear la calificación in a conversation and know it means grade, spell el bolígrafo after hearing it spoken aloud, and complete a sentence like Necesito estudiar para el examen without hesitation.

6. Colors

After completing these quizzes, you'll hear someone say azul or dorado and know exactly what they mean — and you'll use these words yourself without hesitation. This set covers all 20 Spanish color words, grouped into three thematic units. The first unit gives you the eight most common colors: negro, blanca, rojo, azul, verde, amarilla, naranja, and gris. The second unit adds seven richer shades — morada, rosado, marrón, rubio, dorada, plateado, and cremoso — the kind you reach for when describing clothing, jewelry, and food. The third unit rounds out the set with five descriptive words — oscuro, clara, vivo, transparente, and color itself — that let you fine-tune any description you make. Each unit has two short sessions (A and B). The first session (Learn) builds reading recognition: you see a Spanish word and choose its English meaning, or vice versa. The second session (Apply) raises the stakes — you'll hear words spoken aloud, match audio to spelling, and complete fill-in-the-blank sentences. Sessions run about five minutes. Starting from Unit 2, earlier words return in harder question types so nothing slips from memory. By the end, you'll be able to hear plateado and know it's silver without thinking, spell transparente from an audio clip, and complete a sentence like 'La pared es _____ y cremosa.' You'll have seen, heard, spelled, and used all 20 words in context — and four cumulative review sessions will confirm that mastery sticks.

7. At Home

You're about to unlock the vocabulary you need to talk about your home in Spanish — the spaces you live in, the furniture you use every day, and the actions that keep it all running. This quiz set covers 25 essential words from the topic of "At Home" in Latin American Spanish. You'll learn the names of different types of dwellings (la casa, el apartamento), the rooms inside them (la cocina, el dormitorio, el baño), key pieces of furniture (la silla, la cama, el sofá), and the structural features that define a home (la puerta, la pared, la escalera). You'll also pick up two essential verbs: vivir (to live) and limpiar (to clean). These words come up constantly — whether you're describing your apartment, giving directions to a room, or simply chatting about everyday life at home. The quizzes are organized into three thematic units, each with two short sessions of about five minutes. The first session (Drill A) eases you in with reading-based questions — Spanish to English and English to Spanish. The second session (Drill B) steps it up with listening clips, spelling from audio, and fill-in-the-blank sentences. Starting from the second unit, earlier words circle back in harder question types, so nothing slips away. After the three units, four cumulative reviews cover the full vocabulary one more time — reading first, then listening, then contextual sentences, then everything mixed together. By the end, you'll be able to recognize every word on the page, identify it by ear, spell it from an audio clip, and slot it into a real sentence naturally. Your Spanish home vocabulary will be ready for genuine conversation.
