Heads up: Actor stays actor for men, but the feminine form is actriz—one of the few Spanish profession nouns that changes its ending rather than just its article. Most other professions in this group simply swap the article.

Worth knowing: Maestro is used far beyond the classroom in Latin America. Taxi drivers, craftsmen, and musicians are all routinely addressed as maestro as a mark of respect, with no teaching role implied.
