Did you know that cariñoso comes from the noun cariño, which means affection or love? That same noun doubles as a term of endearment across Latin America: calling someone mi cariño is similar to saying my dear in English.

Note that trabajador began as a noun meaning worker and later became a common adjective meaning hardworking. You will still hear it used as a noun in phrases like un buen trabajador, meaning a good worker.
