Ordering Food (part 2 of 3) 🔒

A menu in another language is fine until the waiter is standing next to you, pen ready, waiting. This is the part where you take charge of that moment: order a drink, ask what is good, say what you want, and add a side without any of it turning into pointing at the page.

The waiter opens with ¿Desea algo de tomar?, and you will learn to answer it and then move on to the food itself. One phrase worth memorising outright is ¿Qué me recomienda usted?, which turns a stranger into a helpful guide and almost always gets you something the kitchen does well. You will also practice accepting a suggestion, naming exactly what you want, and asking for a smaller portion with Una ensalada pequeña, por favor. Ordering, asking for advice, and closing a request politely are the same skills you need at a coffee counter, a juice stand, or a hotel breakfast, so this part earns its keep well beyond the dinner table.
