Getting your coffee is one thing. Staying put, with the table you wanted, a plug within reach and the Wi-Fi working, takes a different handful of sentences, and this part hands you all of them.

Here the conversation moves away from the counter and into the room. You weigh a seat by the window against one at the back, you meet Si accomodi as the ordinary invitation to sit down, and you work through the questions that decide whether a café is somewhere you can spend an hour: whether there is Wi-Fi and what the password is, whether a socket is within reach with C'è anche una presa vicino al tavolo?, and how late the place stays open. Anyone who has hunted for somewhere to answer a few emails in an unfamiliar city knows how much those answers matter. The same questions do their job in a hotel lounge or a quiet restaurant, and every request here is phrased politely, which is what keeps a small favor sounding like a favor rather than an order.
