There is a handy shortcut for regular shapes. When every side is equal, the perimeter is just one side length multiplied by the number of sides, so a square with sides of 4 cm has a perimeter of 16 cm.
That shortcut scales to any regular shape. A regular octagon, with its eight equal sides, works in exactly the same way. For irregular shapes, where the sides differ, you simply add every side length together instead.
